Barbara Fraser has served Saint Louis County for over 25 years. As Councilwoman, State Representative and school board member, Barbara has created jobs, protected our neighborhoods and fought for our children and seniors. Her wide-range of service gives Barbara the experience we need in our next State Senator.
Barbara has proudly served as the Councilwoman of Saint Louis
County’s Fifth District for the past two years. The
expansive, dynamic district encompasses the inner-ring suburbs.
She fought for equitable property assessment practices and fair
funding for local school districts. During the closing and
construction of Highway 64/40, Barbara has been an ardent
citizen advocate, meeting with MODOT officials monthly to
monitor the progress of the construction and to apprise the
Department of constituent concerns.
Barbara represented St. Louis County’s 83rd District as State
Representative from 1999 to 2007. In 2002, She sponsored the
bill reauthorizing the Children’s Health Insurance Program
(CHIPs) and ensured continued care for over 70,000 Missouri
children. Barbara worked passionately to ensure funding for
Missouri’s schools – serving on the Interim Committee for
Funding for Higher Education and the Joint Interim Committee for
K-12 Education. As a legislative member of the Missouri
Cultural Trust Fund Board, she restored and expanded arts
funding throughout her career.
A Democrat, Barbara worked tirelessly to overcome partisanship
and reach across the aisle to advance our region’s interests.
Barbara is a graduate of the 2004 John F. Kennedy Senior
Executives in State and Local Government Program at Harvard
University.
She was elected to the University City School Board in 1983,
where she served four terms, with one term as president.
She has also served as a subdivision trustee.
Before being elected to office, Barbara worked as a history
teacher for 22 years. She is married to Norman Jones and
she has two daughters.
